A Guide to Responsible Whale Watching

How we ensure a safe and respectful experience for both our guests and the marine life.

The waters surrounding Tenerife are globally recognized as a sanctuary for marine life. In fact, the channel between Tenerife and La Gomera has been designated a Whale Heritage Site—one of only a handful in the world. As operators in this precious ecosystem, we recognize our profound responsibility to protect it.

Our approach to whale and dolphin watching is built entirely on respect. We adhere to strict protocols regarding distance and speed. Our captains are trained to approach pods slowly and smoothly, coming to a complete stop at a safe distance to allow the animals to approach us if they choose. We never chase, cut across their path, or split a pod.

By keeping our groups small and our engines quiet, we minimize the acoustic and physical stress on the animals. It is a deeply humbling experience to have a curious pilot whale swim alongside the hull of our yacht, looking up at our guests. These moments of connection can only happen when the animals feel safe.

When you book an experience with Blue Ocean Yacht Charter, you are supporting sustainable tourism. A portion of our proceeds is directed towards local marine conservation efforts, ensuring that these incredible creatures continue to thrive for generations to come.
